one afternoon in operating theatre coffee room. some random conversation while waiting for the next patient on mr mcdermott/mr evoy surgery list.
breffiny : are you seeing someone siti?
siti : well... yeah, kind of. you can say so.
sara : really? here? we know him? how come you never tell us?
siti : no, no. back home. in malaysia. but i'm here, he's there. long-distance. so it's hard to say really. well, you don't go prancing around and about about your boyfriend, do you?
breffiny : haha. yeah. oh it's ok. so where did you guys meet?
siti : he was studying abroad as well. so we met then. 2 years now. and he's graduated, so he went back.
sara : is he nice to you? does he gives you presents?
siti : well, i'd say so. he's kinda nice guy. and he gives presents. and he talks sweetly. and he makes me happy.
breffiny : and he's your type? are you gonna marry him?
siti : he's not really the type i used to like, to be honest. ermm, may be i will, if he asks me to. i kinda like the idea of having him permanently in my life.
breffiny : so he calls you often? skype?
siti : ehemm.
sara : is he romantic?
siti : well he is. i think. i know. well we don't get to spend so much time together, apart from the ones virtually. blame the distance and time zones. so i don't know to what extent is his romanticness. not that i ever try him to the limit. he's not perfect, and we are not that flawlessly compatible, but so far i think he's good for me.
breffiny : gah, aren't you one lucky girl?
siti : yes. i know. i'm thankful.
sara : yeah i wish i have somebody like that. i'm spending this weekend with my sister. isn't that 'romantic'?
siti : sheesh, sara. be grateful. i miss my sister so much i would be willing to trade.
sara : really? you'd rather have a sister than boyfriend? take my sister then. then i'll take your boyfriend. haha.
siti : no way sara!
breffiny : what's his name siti?
siti : why? you don't know him anyway. and he's a malay. with no fancy english name.
breffiny : just for future reference.
siti : okay then, ahmad.
sara : that's like a common name for malaysian right?
siti : yes. just like paddy in irish.
breffiny : how old is he? and he's working?
siti : 27. and yes, he teaches.
sara : like in school? for kids?
siti : kind of. but not kids. for older students. like leaving-certs level, and older.
breffiny : you are so right to find a non-medicine guy.
sara : and how old are you?
breffiny : she's a year older than us.
sara : 24? you don't look like it!
siti : yes? why?
sara : you look so much younger. but i guess it's a good thing.
siti : yes. let's just hope so.
